Often times people struggle with losing weight even when they have tried everything from dieting to exercise. It can be very discouraging and clients frequently tell me how they’ve given up and accepted that they will be overweight and sick. It doesn’t have to be that way though. While each one of us is different and these may not be the reason you aren’t able to lose weight, the key is to keep trying until you find what works for you and gives you the breakthrough results you have been waiting for.
- Toxicity: It’s no secret that we live in a highly toxic world. From the air we breathe to the food we eat, our bodies are constantly bombarded with chemicals and pollutants. Typically, toxins are eliminated through one of four ways: sweat, breath, urine, and excrement. When these systems are overloaded with toxins, they are then stored in our fat cells so that the fat keeps the toxins from making us ill. The body keeps this fat in storage until the normal toxin-removal systems are no longer bogged down and are able to eliminate properly. This is why cleansing or detoxing several times per year is recommended.
- Dieting: Yes, you may be using diets as a way to lose weight that helps to drop the pounds quickly. When that weight comes back though, it may lead to adding on even more than you originally started with. The best way to lose weight is with long-term dietary changes along with exercise and working on emotional health as well. There are no quick fixes to weight loss that will keep the weight off for good without making permanent changes in the way you eat, feel, think, and move. Dieting also works against you if you are a serial dieter because it can lead to metabolic disorder, making it harder to lose weight.
- Malnutrition: It is possible for people who are overweight to be malnourished, even though we typically associate malnourishment with being underweight. Many people often lack essential nutrients in their diet such as healthy fats which are essential for brain development as well as a healthy metabolism. The type of fat consumed is very important and they are not all created equal. You can have a lot of fat in your diet, but if you aren’t getting enough of the right kind and in the right balance, it is not beneficial.
