Why Should You Detox?


In a sense, the human body is constantly in a state of detoxing- your body’s excretory systems are designed to remove waste as part of the body’s natural functioning. The liver, kidneys, small intestine, and large intestine or colon are the major organs that figure in helping our bodies detoxify for weight loss and to stay healthy.

The human body is really an astounding mechanism. Did you know the kidneys recirculate the blood three times in one day, which equals over 47 gallons; the liver produces 800-1,000 ml (27-33oz) of bile per day; and the colon houses over 700 species of beneficial flora or bacteria (probiotics) that perform a variety of functions, ranging from breaking down fibers to producing large amounts of vitamins?

The typical American lifestyle is replete with overexposure to toxic substances that are making us sick! Did you ever stop to wonder why it is that, as the foremost world power with the most sophisticated advances in medicine and best medical care available, we also have the highest rates of several debilitating and life-threatening diseases?

Obesity, heart disease, hypertension and high cholesterol, stroke, Alzheimer’s and dementia, osteoporosis and cancer can all occur when your body is not able to rid itself of toxins properly.

Where do these toxins come from?

They are in our environment, in the water and the air. They are in the chemically synthesized medications we put into ourselves, including artificial hormones from birth control and hormone replacement therapy. They are in legal and illegal drugs, including alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine.

They are in our food – from chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides, GMO crops, injected hormones, stress hormones and antibiotics that are pumped into the animals which provide our meat and dairy. Refined sugar, bleached flour and many processed foods also contain toxins.

They can come from within ourselves when we are too stressed and not taking care of ourselves properly, and the byproduct is free radicals generated from within.

What happens when I am overloaded with toxins?

When the body is overloaded with toxins, the excretory organs end up overextended with a backlog of harmful substances they’re trying to eliminate but can never quite catch up.

This leads to a whole host of health problems – fatigue, poor sleep, difficulty concentrating and brain fog, poor digestion and elimination, weight gain (as fat cells expand to accommodate toxins that the body is unable to process out), cellulite, high cholesterol, hypertension and heart disease, thyroid malfunction, adrenal fatigue and candida (yeast) overgrowth in the gut, which creates an environment in which parasites can survive and proliferate.

Evidence suggests there’s a strong correlation to mental ailments like depression and anxiety. Many of us deal with one or more of these issues every day and grow accustomed to feeling badly all the time. Don’t we deserve to feel good- or even great???
